A reporter received an unwelcome soda bath from the wife of a northwest Georgia county commissioner during a public meeting Friday.

Abbey Winters, the wife of Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters, dumped a fountain drink on AllOnGeorgia reporter Casie Bryant, 39, before saying, “You deserve that,” according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Cops said they investigated the incident, and Winters told them she had tripped and accidentally spilled the drink on the reporter’s head. The 35-year-old faces charges of simple battery and disorderly conduct, according to a police report published by AllOnGeorgia.

The local news blog launched in 2015.

Delvis Dutton, the owner of AllOnGeorgia, called the incident “completely inappropriate.”

“I’m disappointed to see not only the behavior of those involved, but the excuses made for the behavior after the fact,” Dutton said, according to AllOnGeorgia. “The media plays an integral role in ensuring transparency and these types of antics are dangerous to open government and a disservice to the people it serves.”
