A Massachusetts woman died Friday after she was mauled by her pet dog while she was having a seizure.
Melissa Astacio, 44, began seizing around 5:20 p.m. Friday at home in Somerset, her daughter told 911, according to Boston 25.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Astacio’s 8-year-old pit bull attacking her and had to use a Taser on the dog to subdue it.
Astacio was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead an hour later.
A family friend told Boston 25 that the dog, who is now in quarantine, was protective of Astacio “and never left her side.”
No foul play is suspected.
