Florida deputies killed a 65-year-old man after he shot his sister in front of them on Christmas Eve.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in Deltona around 8:15 Tuesday night after the unidentified 73-year-old woman called a relative to say her brother, Harvey Cantrell, was “irrational, abusive and armed with a firearm,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a statement.
About 20 minutes after police arrived at the home, the woman walked out of the house with Cantrell behind her. As she exited the front door, Cantrell fired his gun and shot her in the shoulder; the bullet also grazed her face, police said.
Deputies fired on Cantrell immediately, shooting and killing him.
The shooting victim, who was visiting her brother after their mother died, is in stable condition at Central Florida Hospital in Sanford.
The deputies who fired at Cantrell were put on administrative leave, per department policy.
