Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan likely will face a grilling from lawmakers Thursday when he testifies before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about the treatment of migrants detained in U.S. government facilities and the Trump administration’s family separation policy. Last week, Republicans and Democrats on the committee sparred over the migrant crisis throughout a tense hearing, while Vice President Mike Pence and a group of Republican senators toured two Border Patrol facilities in Texas. At least six migrant children have died in federal detention facilities since December.

A lawyer for Epstein said he would never flee to avoid prosecution and was ready to pledge millions of dollars for bail if necessary. The federal indictment unsealed a week ago charged that Epstein sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida.
Docs released in Trump hush money probe
Warrant records related to searches of Michael Cohen’s residence and office are expected to be filed publicly Thursday after federal prosecutors concluded their investigation. Cohen, Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, said he engineered payments to two women who claimed to have had extramarital affairs with Trump to silence them before the 2016 presidential election: Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal and pornographic actress Stormy Daniels. U.S. District Judge William Pauley revealed the end of the investigation as part of an order in which he instructed the government to make public some of the search warrants it used during the investigation. Cohen, who pleaded guilty to two campaign finance violations for the payments, as well as a set of other felonies, is serving a three-year prison sentence.
