A small plane crashed in Louisiana on Saturday morning, killing five people.

The plane went down near a Walmart and United States Post Office Saturday morning, a mere mile from Lafayette Regional Airport, where it had just departed

The twin-engine aircraft was about a mile from the airport when it went down on Verot School Road around 9:22 a.m. local time, Lafayette Police Lt. Scott Morgan told Fox News, noting, “We know it came down in a parking lot.”

Of the six people on board, only one survived, and three on the ground were injured and transported to a hospital, KATC reported, citing the Lafayette Fire Department.

The Walmart on Pinhook Road was evacuated, and the area’s neighborhoods and businesses currently have no power.

“We ask that everyone please avoid the area as first responders work on securing the scene,” the Lafayette Police Department wrote on Facebook.
